Representation aims at creating a supportive regulatory and legislative environment to enable sustained viable growth for progressive Financial Co-operatives. CGA represents co-operative financial institutions through meaningful advocacy and engagements with governmental agencies, policy makers and the media to promote and defend member interests. The CGA shall mobilize needed support for the propagation of its mandate from like-minded Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and corporate bodies in the interest of member benefits. In this direction our activities are targeted at influencing the agenda of the legislation, regulation, and policy development in a positive and constructive manner to obtain appropriate outcomes for CGA member organisations and the network.
CGA will also act as an intermediary and representative for individual member owned financial Co-operatives with issues that are in line with our principles. We provide a Member Support Service to ensure that member Organisations are up to date on all legislative and regulatory matters that impact on their day to day work. CGA shall also advocate for a fair share of technical and financial support to Financial Co-operatives within the larger financial industry emanating from government sources as well as the donor community.
We are here to help Financial Co-operatives through the employment of strategic development to facilitate the attainment of solutions of problems for which the member Financial Co-operatives were created, so as to fulfill their end user demands.
CGA provides a supportive platform by which member organizations can manage Risk and Compliance across their businesses. In addition CGA will offer supportive information in all areas concerning Legislation, Regulation, Institutional Fitness and Probity. The purpose of our Fitness and Probity development service is to promote a high level of competent and capable, honesty, ethical and integrity and also financially sound leadership and senior management teams, in relation to member country regulatory standards.
In Ghana, this service will prepare both volunteer leaders and senior management staff of credit unions to comply adequately with the Fit and Proper Directive of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) issued under the powers conferred by Sections 6 and 92(1) of the Banks & Specialized Deposit Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930). The directive is expected to enhance the quality of corporate governance and the resultant risk management with the aim of mitigating avoidable mistakes that could lead to the negative impact of deposit taking institutions.
CGA Manages a Solution Centre as part of our Strategic Development Services. Our Solutions Centre relate local conditions, legislation, regulation and policy in the design of solutions for our members. We combine professionalism and experience to offer solutions in a timely manner. We assist our members with access to collaborative opportunities, project participation in initiatives that include product development, digital marketing, procurement of goods and services, vendors and contract maintenance, and access to the Fin Coop Support Platform (FCSP). The goal of the Solution Centre is to offer a timely response for relief in challenging situations, thereby providing value to Financial Co-operatives in order to enhance and strengthen their business practices and the co-operative system in Africa as a whole.
CGA offers a competency development service that facilitates the attainment of underlying characteristics of managers and directors of Financial Co-operatives which enables them to deliver superior performance in a given job, tasks, role or situation. This we do through a wide range of high-quality training and development on all relevant current issues to enhance the competence, professionalism and excellence of Financial Co-operatives personnel and stakeholders including Board of Directors and members.
The CGA competency training goes beyond the level superficial behaviour of skill and knowledge. Beneficiaries of our training are able to associate behaviour with intent in delivering their performance outcomes. Our training outcomes move participants from threshold competencies to differentiating competencies thereby making them attain their organizational objectives efficiently and effectively.
The CGA Training and Development Programme includes a number of targeted areas for Boards of Directors, Board Oversight Committees, Management Teams and Fincoop personnel. All of our programmes are devised collaboratively between CGA and experts in the field to ensure the content is specifically designed to support Financial Cooperatives in the current challenging environment.
CGA encourages participation from both member and non-member Financial Institutions at all training events, thereby providing a valuable opportunity for networking and knowledge sharing.
